John is a seasoned business professional with over 20 years of experience in physical and information security, privacy, and compliance. His unique background encompasses service in both national security and the private industry. John began his career with an enlistment in the US Army. Following his military service, he held multiple roles requiring a high-level security clearance at a national laboratory within the Department of Energy complex. Since transitioning to the private sector, John has successfully established and matured security, compliance, and privacy programs for three multinational organizations. Currently, he holds the position of VP of Information Security at Big 5 Corporation, a publicly traded retail company. Beyond his role at Big 5, John is dedicated to mentoring newcomers to the industry and actively participates in various industry groups.
